Our story

Twenty years of passion
at the heart of Deshaies.

The story of a place, a vision and a way of life born in Guadeloupe in 2005.

2005 Founded

Born from a journey,
rooted in Deshaies.

Taïnos Cottages was born from an encounter between two worlds: the Guadeloupean archipelago and its tropical landscapes, and the Indonesian archipelago with its ancestral building techniques. In 2005, the founders of Taïnos chose to plant their dream on the hillside of Deshaies, facing the beach of Grande Anse.

They brought back from Indonesia an authentic antique teak rice granary — today the Coki cottage — and built three other accommodations around it sharing the same philosophy: harmony with nature, noble materials, natural ventilation, preserved light.

Twenty years on, Taïnos remains a human-scale property. Four cottages, an attentive team, and the conviction that true luxury means "taking time".

Architecture

A built heritage
at the crossroads of two cultures

Every material, every construction detail tells the story of the journey that led to the creation of the property. Caribbean architecture open to the outdoors, Indonesian wood and tile techniques — a rare marriage.

A name, a tribute

Who were the Taïnos?

The Taïnos were the indigenous people of the Greater Antilles, the first inhabitants of these islands before the arrival of Europeans. A people of the sea, the garden and sharing, they gave the Caribbean its name — "land of brave men".

Naming this property Taïnos is a tribute to those who were here before us, to their relationship with the living world and their sense of hospitality. It is also a promise: here, we live in tune with nature, with time and with one another.
